i get this code when trying to install Vista

Which method are you using for installation? From DVD, Virtual Drive? Have you tried extracting the contents of the ISO and launch setup from within XP and select Custom when the option is made available and install Vista on the partition you dedicated for Vista? Also, Vista cannot install on external drives. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Hi,
I am getting the same exact error. Using an internal DVD drive on both my laptop and PC. Gets to differnet points of the copying windows files when it happens. Re-downloaded and reburned the ISO same result.

Hi,
I am gettingt the same issue on both 64-bit and 32 bit installation from a burned DVD. I have tried my laptop as well as my desktop PC. Redownloaded the ISO's and re-burned the ISO files same result. Does anyone know what exactly this error translates too?
thanks, Zach

I'm having the exact same problem. I had on the previous build too. I've tried reburning the DVD with both builds and I still get the same error.

Same error here. Tried both 64 and 32, happens at about 10% of step 2. Tried both over-writing Xp home and Xp pro as well as doing custom onto its own partition from boot up and it fails at about the same point regardless of method.

You "search" for it! That's the purpose of a "Search" function - to find things!

I finally found a good solution! No dvd needed!
I had the same problem(error 80070017) at first but I tried a different way and it worked.
All you have to do is download a .iso extracter from "www.download.com". The program is called UltraISO(just search for it). Even though its a trial version, it still works. After you download and install the UltraISO. Go to File>Open and open the .iso file into it and extract the file into a folder. After you do that, click on setup and it will work.
Try burning the DVD at very slow speed, even 1x or 2x.
